An Iowa Summer

Taken about 1952, Chris(right),brother Johnny, and cousins Linda and Gordon are cuddling chickens. Actually I think Johnny's death grip on his chicken is probably keeping him from getting pecked! We lived in Chincoteague, VA at the time, so visiting our Mom's sisters, Aunt Fern and Aunt Lenore's families in rural northwestern Iowa was quite an experience. Uncle John was a sheep shearer, so we were introduced to lamb burgers. Uncle George worked at a wall board mill at the time - he'd bring home lots of comic books to read that were recycled into wall board. The surrounding corn fields lined the roadways for as far as one could see. We picked fresh mulberries, ate lots of corn-on-the-cob, made necklaces and bracelets from the large pink clover flowers and played hide and seek in the corn fields.
