PREPARE, PREPARE!

After prayerful consideration we decided to beef up our food storage, no pun intended! Although we have been dry packing at our local storehouse, we decided to be adventuresome and roll up the carpet and try it at home. After covering the wall with plastic to prevent the food dust from collecting, moving out some furniture to make more room to work, and sealing off most of the exits from the kitchen, we began the process. The prep was more involved than the actual canning. We had to stop several times for Bruce to doctor Chris's mishaps. Twice she sliced open a finger, then a thumb - those can lips are sharp! Then Mike & family came over to do their product. All in all, we canned 235 cans of red wheat, rice, flour, oatmeal, hot cocoa, pinto beans, black beans, refried beans, potato flakes, apple slices, carrots, white and brown sugar, and the new long-storage powdered milk.

Madi had seen Baranie and the kids arrive, so came over from next door to see what was going on. As she made the detour down the hall, and came into the kitchen, her eyes were wide with wonder and confusion. "What are you doing?!", she asked, as she looked around at all the plastic wrapped walls and spotted Pop Pop's camera up on the tripod. We tried to convince her that we were making a spooky movie and asked her if she wanted to play one of the monsters!
